On 21 November 1997 at 11:23 local time a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck close Chittagong city in SW Bangladesh at a depth of 54 km¹,². Houses were damaged at Alikadam, Bandarban, Lama and Nakhyaungcharipara and the earthquake was felt as far away as Rangpur and Rajshali².
