Tsunamigenic earthquake threat

Based on data for return periods and other characteristics of tsunamigenic earthquakes, the next strong submarine earthquake and tsunami is forecast to occur between 19 and 28º S in the vicinity of northern Chile.

Maximum tsunami wave heights are estimated at 13 m for a 50 year return period and 25 m for a 100 year return period.
