On 16 October 1982 Mount Cameroon erupted lava and ash from a SW-NE trending fissure on the south-west flank of the volcano. During the first few days of the eruption 300-400 m high fire-fountains were observed and a lava flow entered the rainforest at 2,400 m covering a total distance of 8 km.
Between 30 October and 4 November a landslide occurred below the cone producing a volcanic debris flow. After the landslide, numerous small lava flows flowed into the depression.
