M 7.9 Earthquake - June 2000, Indonesia
On 4, 5 and 6 June 2000, the area south-west of Sumatra was struck by a series of earthquakes the largest of which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and occurred 100 km west of Sumatra. Aftershocks (many of which measured up to 5 on the Richter scale) continued for several days afterwards. The area affected included the environs of Bengkulu City and Enggano Island in Bengkulu province.
