|
On 13 July 2006, a violent winter storm bought strong winds and heavy rain to the lowlands of central and south Chile. Fatalities were mainly the result of a landslide that was triggered in the Bio Bio region 600 km south of Santiago. The Christ the Redeemer pass and tunnel between Chile and Argentina were jammed due to the rains and heavy snow stranding around 2500 lorries.
