Volcanic activity – Popocatepetl

On 21 December 1994, three explosions produced ash fall to the NE of the volcano on the town of Puebla (45 km away) leading to the evacuation of around 75,000 people1,2. An ash plume rising 100 to 500 m above the crater was observed and the ash was carried at least 60 km east2.
