Two days of heavy rain that commenced on 11 July 2006 triggered floods and landslides across 1300 km2 of Chile¹.

The region of Bio Bio (central Chile) was severely affected by the floods and was declared a disaster zone²,¹. 25,343 people were forced out of their homes due to the threat of rivers bursting their banks and 3679 people were accommodated in temporary shelters².
